In Finding 1984 we evaluate the influence of George Orwell’s seminal novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Michael Radford, director of the film adaptation 1984, examines cultural references and assesses not only what Orwell got right but also what he got wrong. Through meeting with prominent international artists and cultural figures we learn exactly how Orwell’s writing has influenced their varied and fascinating careers, their ideas brought to life with animation and graphics; thirty years after the imagined futuristic setting of the story. The bigger picture presented in Nineteen Eighty-Four has endured, challenging us and our interviewees to continue to question the nature of humanity and freedom; and inspiring us to break new ground as we predict what the world will look like head in 2050.
